Robert Burns, "A Red, Red Rose"

Stumbled on this just now:



I love teaching Burns, not least because I love to read aloud wi' an accent. (It's not ham acting, it's estrangement--you know, all that Russian Formalist stuff.)

This and this are pleasures too.

I loved this, Eric. Thanks so much. And the Scottish paintings. ALL those loves were somebody's loves long gone, as generic as particular as the red red rose. Making me weep for love and at least partially with loathing for historical romance clinch covers with their empty-eyed stiff-jawed models straight from the gym just five minutes ago. Oh right, different blog...
